Divorce in Islam  Mar 7, 2018 The teachings of Islamic law and the Qur'an are very clear about divorce: a couple should not remain together if they are unable to live in harmony, or if one or both of them has been unfaithful. This, however, does not mean that there is no way for a couple to obtain a divorce. They must ask for the divorce, in an orderly way, and only after both have given their consent. "If he divorced her in the fault of the woman, he should not seek to get her back, except in the case of compulsion, for the purposes of justice; and the release should be made clear in the presence of two witnesses" (Quran 2:229).
